This inaugural conference ‘Reading early photographs: visual sources for the interpretation of Iranian Qajar history’ took place at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands and was jointly organised by the Department of Languages and Cultures of the Islamic Middle East, Leiden University; the International Qajar Studies Association (IQSA); the Research School of Asian, African, and Amerindian Studies, Leiden University and the Genootschap Nederland-Iran.
